The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation provides resources for artists, engages with community and promotes the legacy of the founding artists, Joan Beauregard and John David Ellis.

The vision of the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation is to encourage, expand and sustain the courageous and imaginative dialogue that is fundamental to the arts. The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation celebrates the value of art to transcend cultures and engage with diverse communities. Through its programs, the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation supports the exploration of the common ground that art occupies, the way it engages people, and its ability to reveal our shared human experience.

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation is pleased to announce a national $50,000.00 award to a contemporary choreographer. The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation is proud to partner with Portland Ovations to present the work of the awardee through their Raising the Barre initiative. This presentation is a requirement of the award and all expenses will be paid by the awardee. Applications are being accepted through www.submittble.com by choreographers living in the United States beginning May 1, 2025 with a deadline of July 1, 2025

The Choreographer Award is an effort to bolster the field, incubate new ideas and, thanks to our wonderful partnership with Portland Ovations and our amazing jurors, bring more dance to Maine. In its finest iteration, Contemporary Dance is transcendent and sublime, expressive and powerful beyond language. We are thrilled to join the conversation and support movement based art

Applicants must be permanent United States Residents. Applicants must be 18 years of age, and not enrolled in an educational program.



The Project Grant  award is open to Maine Artists only, 18 years or over who are not enrolled as a student. Artist teams are welcome to apply.
Award
The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation announces project grants for Maine artists working in all genres.The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation offers five $10,000.00 grants for projects completed within the grant year 2026. We are interested in supporting bold, compelling, risk taking work in and outside of the standard exhibition venue.Successful projects value unconventional approaches to art making, critical dialogue, collaboration and new models of community interface. Applications may address a distinct chapter, aspect or component of a larger project.
Interventions, site specific installations, publications, curatorial projects, web or media based work is all welcome. Community engagement and collaboration in and outside the arts is encouraged
A narrative, 10 work samples, resume, and budget are required. Failure submit a final report will result in ineligibility for any further grants. recipients must credit the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in all public communication. Grant dollars will be delivered by December 2025 for the grant year 2026. Grant monies are taxable. We very excited to hear about your projects and encourage you to apply. Submission Requirements
Applicants will need to submit a narrative proposing their project, how they will bring it to the public and approximate assignation of funds. Additionally we require ten work samples and a resume. Applications will open June 1, 2025 and close August 1, 2025

Artist Residency Program

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation is completing an award winning artist residency facility, exhibition and performing arts space creating in effect a "campus" on Foundation Place in Rockland, Maine, opening January 1, 2026! 

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation recognizes that the arts are essential to an open, enlightened society. The residency program values innovation, experimentation and creative risk-taking in all genres, known and as yet to be discovered. We envision the residency as inclusive and diverse, prompting reflection and dialogue with other residents and the community, offering the gift of concentrated time and space in which to unveil new ideas and imagine new ways of working. Residents are expected to be full time active cohort participants. Please apply with that intent. However, if an important opportunity conflicts with your time in residence, we will try to come to an equitable solution.

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation, located on the coast of Maine in Rockland, will provide four light filled studios, bedroom and bath for residents. Residents will have access to a common area an exhibition and performance space and a small tool workshop. and a stipend of $1500.00 a month per resident. Artists must be at least 18 years old and residents of the United States.

Artists of any discipline may apply

There will be one month and two month and 6 month sessions. When you apply please indicate the dates you would like to attend.

Artists are expected to participate in events hosted by the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation and to credit the Ellis-Beauregard Foundation in all social media, exhibit announcements and any other public interface during the time their residency..

The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation sets up studio visits from critics, curators, artists and  museum directors during the residency sessions.

The residency is located in the lively creative community of Rockland, Maine, home to the Farnsworth Art Museum, The Center for Maine Contemporary Art, The Apprentice Shop, The Camden International Documentary Film Festival, Rockland Shorts film festival, North Atlantic Blues Festival, Maine Lobster festival and many galleries.

Residency Length:  six, one and two month sessions at the discretion of the juror.

Companions: No Spouses/partners/children or pets allowed.

10, 300 dpi jpegs of your work which may include details. Images should be current, no more than 2 years old.

Performing artists should submit work samples in currently popular, cross-platform, video formats which include mp4, mov, avi, flv, and wmv. Multiple videos may be submitted per application but their aggregate length must not exceed 2 minutes for single-project applications and 5 minutes for multi-component applications. Videos must be embedded in .pdf files with a maximum file size of 25 MB.

Review policy and notification:

Selection into The Ellis-Beauregard Foundation Studio Residence program will be based on artistic excellence. Artists working at every level, emerging through established, are equitably welcomed and reviewed. Applications will be evaluated by a panel of experts in the field and applicants will be notified by email of acceptance into residency no later than October 2025
